Stupid stock market, and other business musings

From Dan, over at the Tabularium, we get a duo of good posts. First he discusses the effect on corporate strategy of maximizing shareholder value. This obviously has a huge effect on what companies do and how they spend their money, and not always for the better. He wrote a good post about it.

Next Dan discusses something near and dear to my heart: the inexplicably negative effect that IBM's much better than predicted 4th quarter 2004 results have had on their stock price in the last few days. Apparently analysts are "bored" with how "solid" IBM's results have been lately. Eh? As disclosure I own stock in IBM as I worked for them for 6 years, so of course this bugs the heck out of me. Dan also throws a tie-in to the article about maximizing shareholder, pretty cool huh?

Brian after reading your blog it reminded me to update mine. My passion for runs deep. If you are like me business is a constant; But a respite from it gives me a fresh outlook. My http://serendipitysuccess.blogspot.com/2005/11/update-to-steelers-climb-to-top-of-afc.html has a similar theme and plays important roles too. Football especially for most fans and partners is a highlight in the autumn and articles create great gatherings. Thanks for your Stupid stock market, and other business musings.
